A hungry bear cub dragged a whole microwave across a building site after smelling the food that had just been cooked outside.

Master craftsman Mike McKay was working on a new home construction in Tahoma, California, USA, on November 14, when he and his co-workers decided to heat up their meals for lunch.

Hilarious footage shows a young bear grab the back of the appliance and drag it away from the back of the house as Mike banged on the window to get it to stop.

Ignoring the pleas, the animal pulled the microwave through the snow by holding on to the plug wire with its mouth.

Mike said: “We were having lunch and put the microwave outside, so we didn't stink up the home nearing completion. We had all heated our lunch and were inside eating.

“Bears have really good noses and are expert opportunists, he simply waltzed in and started to drag it off.

“He didn't get far, we wanted it back for heating our food, so we scared him off to get it back.

“The bears in this area have become very brazen, some don't even hibernate anymore because they have a winter food supply. This time of year, they are instinctively hungrier, it's called hyperphagia.

“I get a kick out of being so close to dangerous animals. Fortunately, I was protected by a glass window. That was just a cub, but you do have to worry about mama bear being nearby.”
