Fascinating moment huge telescope moves as the earth rotates with the Geminid meteor shower unfolding in the background in Shropshire, England

This eye-bending video captures Earth's rotation as a radio telescope searches the universe for information during the Geminid meteor shower.

The telescope, named Knockin Radio Telescope, is part of an array managed by the internationally renowned Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire.

The chain of seven radio-astronomy dishes across England, including Knockin (located near Oswestry, Shropshire), make up the existing Merlin network (Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network).

Signals from the seven dishes are combined to create a clearer picture of the universe.

The video captured in the early hours of Thursday 15 December morning, shows the Geminids meteor shower, which is one of the most active showers with up to 120 per hour on a normal year, however this year saw a half moon which brought the figure down to between 3-40 per hour.

The video shows the more commonly called 'shooting stars' streak across the sky in long lines as the Earth's rotation seamingly moves the stars around the sky, yet the stars are fixed and it is Earth that is moving at thousands of miles an hour.

Temperatures dipped as low as minus 12 degrees celcius in some parts of the UK overnight, Shropshire saw temps of minus 8 degrees celsius.
