Police chiefs were investigating today after a Chinese tourist paid corrupt officers for a motorcade from the airport to her hotel.

Chou Dan, 25, recorded a vlog of the uniformed officers fast-tracking her through immigration and ushering her into a waiting police car with a motorcycle outrider.

She then dodged traffic as they raced from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok to the coastal city Pattaya around 75 miles away last Thursday at around 10 pm.

The woman claimed she booked through a website 6,000 baht ( 183 USD) for the police car and 7,000 baht (213 USD) for the motorcycle outrider. Three cops were seen escorting her as she beamed 'this is amazing'.

Chou said it was the 'perfect start' to her holiday with her mother after arriving on Hong Kong Airlines Flight HX671.

Speaking in her video, Chou says: 'My agent asked me if I wanted a police escort and I thought to myself 'isn't this illegal? Will I get arrested for this?'

'I decided to try and after landing, I saw the police instantly. I never thought they would pick me up inside.

'They did all my documents for me and there was no need to queue. It was just amazing.

'In the car they put the sirens on for me and we went so quickly through the traffic.'

Chou's video emerged online sparking a police probe. While furious locals who saw the footage slammed their country's notoriously corrupt police force - known to ignore serious crimes for the right price - for allegedly taking backhanders and moonlighting as chauffeurs.

One said: 'What if they were needed for an emergency? Instead, they were bag carriers and door holders for Chinese tourists.'

Another added: 'The police should not be abusing their position to make money. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised.'

While one resident defended the cops. He said: 'Police have to do extra jobs and accept bribes because they are underpaid. The government should improve their wages.'

Officials said today the officers and their superiors are now being investigated.

While national police chief General Damrongsak Kittiprapas branded the incident 'a disgrace' and vowed to punish those involved.

Police Major General Apichat Suriboonya, a spokesman for the Tourist Police Bureau (TPB), said the tourist police officer in the footage was Captain Somphon Phinyosamoson, stationed at the airport.

He added that the three policemen seen in the video have been identified and transferred to desk jobs.

Thailand was ranked 110 out of 180 on Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perception Index. Denmark, Finland and New Zealand were ranked joint first place while South Sudan was bottom.
