A wild python hiding under a car had a ferocious tug-of-war with locals.

The serpent was discovered when its tail was seen sticking out of the front right tire of a sedan in Pasay City, the Philippines on March 6.

Onlookers quickly jumped in to help drag the animal out of the vehicle as it resisted and tried to squeeze further into the car.

Footage shows a village official and two other villages yanking the snake's exposed tail. They used a cloth to hold the reptile's scaly body while they pulled until its head was successfully out.

Car owner Nika Benedicto said: ‘We were wondering why there were many people around our car. Then we saw the snake.'

The creature was turned over to the wildlife department where it will be rehabilitated before release.
