A road collapsed following torrential rain in Cambodia on Wednesday.

A 20-metre stretch of the road was eroded as a storm battered Moldukiri province on August 2.

Footage shows the steep valley left behind by the downpour, making the path impassable to vehicles.

Travelers have been asked to take alternate routes Kratie, Stung Treng, and Ratanakkiri provinces to make way for repairs.

Deputy Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport of Mondulkiri Province Men Sovanny said: ‘The road is badly damaged and it will take more than a year to be repaired.'

Cambodia and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
