House collapses into river during flash flood
A concrete house collapsed into a river as a flash flood eroded the banks.
The home's foundation was swept away by gushing water before toppling over in Chiang Mai province, Thailand on September 23.
Footage shows the structure splitting in half before most of it crumbled onto the body of water. It fell into pieces upon impact on the ground, with some of the debris being washed away.
House owner Patcharin Kongsri said: ‘It took my family almost three years to build our home. 'The storm took it away from us just like that. I don't know how we can start again.'
No one was hurt as the residents evacuated during the storm.
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasted that day that northern Thailand, including Chiang Mai province, would experience heavy downpours with potential flash floods and landslides due to a strong monsoon trough that sweeps the region.
The southwest monsoon, which covers the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand, is also intensified by a low-pressure system hovering over neighbouring Hainan, China.
It comes just days after Typhoon Yagi killed 10 in Thailand. Hundreds more lost their lives in neighbouring Myanmar and Vietnam while hundreds of thousands were displaced across Southeast Asia and China.
Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
