A monitor lizard was removed after it was found roaming in a fermented milk store in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia.

Footage from March 11 shows rescued Waldi approaching the reptile that was spotted near the entrance of the store.

It took Waldi a few minutes before he managed to catch the lizard. He said: "It's thought to have just eaten a carcass because its mouth and body smells."

After being caught, the monitor lizard was taken to the Bukittinggi canyon to be released into its habitat far from settlements.

Reptile lovers called in to evacuate it.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi city, West Sumatra province on Friday (March 11), shows the Bukittinggi Reptile Animal Community (B-Reptanic) team coming to the location and finding a large monitor lizard behind a folding gate.

The rescuer named Waldi catches the monitor lizard's tail.

Carefully and not wanting to hurt the reptile, it took Waldi a few minutes to finally catch the monitor lizard's head.

"It's thought to have just eaten a carcass because its mouth and body smells," Waldi said.

According to Waldi, the monitor lizard is thought to have come from the forest around the site.

The monitor lizard initially came to the building shop, then was chased away by workers until he ran to the beverage office.

After being caught, the monitor lizard is taken to the Bukittinggi canyon to be released into its habitat far from settlements.
