Cathedral hosts memorial for Gift of the Givers humanitarian head murdered in Gaza
The St Georges Cathedral in Cape Town hosted a memorial service for the Gift of the Givers head of mission Ahmed Abassi. Abassi was killed by an Israeli airstrike whilst returning from mosque in Gaza late last week.
The memorial was adressed by renowned anti apartheid activist Dr Allan Boesak. Amongst the attendees were the Mayor of Cape Town Geordin Hill - Lewis and former South African Minister of International relations Ms Lindiwe Sisulu.
Attendees at the memorial chanted free Palestine and sang hymns between speeches. During the keynote address Dr Allan Boesak called on the South African government to expel the Israeli ambassador.
