An ex-soldier heroically dived into a frozen lake to rescue a trapped boy in northern China

The video was filmed in Changchun City in Jilin Province on November 26.

A young boy playing on the frozen surface of Lanpo Lake fell through the ice into a perilous hole. Miraculously, a brave ex-serviceman, Yu Wenming, who had previously served 16 years in the army, leapt into the icy waters without a second thought, risking his own life to save the boy.

Yu, who now works at the logistics management centre of a school, was supervising students playing on the lake when he noticed the boy's plight. Acting swiftly, he threw the boy's detached tyre back to him, then heroically dived into the frigid water after shedding his coat, successfully rescuing the boy.

Despite his own phone being water-damaged in the process, and facing the bitter cold, Yu hurried home to change his wet clothes, downplaying his heroism by stating that as a veteran, a party member, and a father, he couldn't ignore a child in danger.

An eyewitness, Mr Zhang was passing by with his family when they saw the boy walking on the ice with a ski tyre. The ice suddenly broke beneath him near a bridge, trapping the boy in the water.

Zhang advised the boy to stay calm while they sought help. Yu rushed to the scene, initially attempting to pull the boy out but finding the surrounding ice too thin to approach. He then made the decisive decision to jump in after tossing the ski tyre to the boy, ensuring his safe rescue.

The boy, fortunately unharmed, was later taken away by his mother who arrived shortly after the incident.
