Forty Firefighters tackle inferno in Birmingham's World famous Jewellery Quarter
Approximately forty firefighters were called to a ‘factory fire’ in Birmingham’s world famous Jewellery Quarter in the early hours of Tuesday (26 March) morning.
Residents alerted West Midlands Fire Service as five callers rang 999 to report the incident.
Six fire appliances were scrambled at 4.56am along with a hydraulic platform and a high volume pump which brought water from a nearby canal.
On arrival the crews found 40 percent of the building on fire and a cordon was set up around Tenby Street North.
The blaze resulted in power being cut off to local residents.
The building, which is believed to have been a car wash, had charred contents and was being dampened down whilst hot spots were still present.
There were no reported injuries.
The Jewellery Quarter is home to more than 100 retailers, diamond dealers, and workshops. It was described by English Heritage as ‘a national treasure’.
