A private jet overshot a runway in heavy rain before skidding down a steep grass bank injuring passengers in Brazil.

The Bombardier Learjet 75 was carrying Joao Adibe Marques, the boss of the pharmaceutical company Cimed, along with a female passenger and one other on April 23.

They took off from the Aeroport de Chapeco for a 60-mile flight to the Aeroporto Comandante Kraemer in Erechim, Rio Grande do Sul, but experienced difficulty landing in the heavy rain.

CCTV footage shows the jet could not slow down before the runway ended. It then skidded along the grass and plunged down a grass bank.

Pictures from the scene show severe damage to the aircraft's nose and fuselage. The plane registered PP-DYB is now being assessed for repairs.

The woman suffered minor injuries and reported abdominal pain and superficial cuts to her forehead and chest. She received medical attention and was taken to the hospital along with the other two passengers, the pilot and a crew member.

A Cimed spokesman said: 'All passengers and crew are doing well and are safe.'

Police and safety officials said they are investigating the crash.

The Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) said that it sent investigators from the 5th Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Seripa V), based in Canoas, in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, to the scene.

A spokesman said: 'In the Initial Action, specific techniques are used, conducted by qualified and accredited personnel who carry out the collection and confirmation of data, the preservation of elements, the initial verification of damage caused to the aircraft, or by the aircraft, and the collection of other necessary information to the investigation.'

According to Brazilian Air Force (FAB) regulations, 'the conclusion of the investigation will take the shortest possible time, always depending on the complexity of the occurrence and, also, the need to discover possible contributing factors'.
