Police found a 9ft long alligator napping on a road in Florida.

Footage shows the reptile resting on the side of the path as seen from the body camera of a Hillsborough County deputy in Tampa on May 15.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officers were called to the scene to help the cops and used a rope to pull and carry it to the back of their truck.

Approaching the slumbering gator with caution, the deputy attempted to coax the creature off the road.

'You just taking a nap,' he quipped, addressing the imposing reptile before gently urging it to move along.

'Oh hi, big boy! Come on, keep going. Come on, don't be nasty.'

The alligator was returned to its habitat unharmed.
