Schoolgirl-themed birthday party raided by police in Thailand
Police raided a schoolgirl-themed birthday party filled with drugs in Thailand.
Officers arrested 30 people dressed as university students while taking drugs together at a pool villa in Udon Thani province.
Police Colonel Pattanawong Chanpol, superintendent of the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, said in a June 12 press conference that the raid was conducted amid a crackdown on drug parties in the area.
He said: 'From the investigation, 30 suspects who appeared intoxicated were caught. There were 18 men including a Laotian, and 12 women. Police also seized 13 packs of 'Happy Water' collagen weighing 350.64 grams, two pills of ecstasy, 2.48 grams of ketamine, and two sedans.'
Several bottles of liquor were also found at the scene.
The party organiser was identified by authorities as Suphachai Konggarian, 31, while Visinee Srisamer, 34, was the pool villa owner.
Frustrated locals allegedly reported the noise from frequent loud parties at the property, leading to the arrests.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Nitit Rotklongtan, Deputy Chief of Investigation of the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, said undercover officers managed to secure an invite to the party through a chat application, with several members allegedly sourcing a venue and drugs.
He said: 'The drugs were sent from neighbouring countries by Thai nationals partying there. At this particular party, there were no drug sales, but the substances were shared among the group.'
Police said one individual was charged for 'possessing collagen for distribution to the public,' two were charged for 'possession of collagen for sale', one for 'possessing ecstasy for consumption', and three for 'possessing ketamine for consumption.'
Fifteen partygoers allegedly tested positive for drugs.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime had previously flagged 'Happy Water' collagen as containing a cocktail of MDMA, methamphetamine, diazepam, caffeine, tramadol, and ketamine.
The product was typically sold online through social media and in entertainment venues in liquid or powder form, usually mixed with other drinks.
According to Thai law, carrying Category I drugs, including LSD and ecstasy, for 'disposal or possession for the purpose of disposal', has a maximum punishment of the death sentence or life in prison. The most severe punishments are reserved for those who 'produce of import' the substances, while simply possessing the drugs can land offenders in jail for up to 10 years.
Dealing the lesser Category 2 drugs, which include cocaine and ketamine, can carry a life sentence while possession alone has a punishment of five years.
