In a tragic incident in central India's Madhya Pradesh, a 7-foot python was brutally beaten by locals who later discarded it into a drain, thinking it was dead.

The incident took place in Bakud village in Sarni of Betul district on August 25.

Visuals showed the snake lying unconscious with severe wounds as it was being treated by a rescuer and a concerned doctor. The snake had five serious wounds on its body, some of which were old and infected, emitting a foul smell. The python was tied with iron wire, indicating that it had been intentionally harmed.

According to reports, when the python's condition worsened, snake catcher Adil Khan contacted Swati Gaurav, the state coordinator of People for Animals, based in Bhopal. After discussing with senior officials from the Forest Department, Swati obtained consent to transfer the python to Bhopal for urgent treatment. By 10 pm, the snake was referred to a surgeon in Bhopal for an operation to save its life.

Adil Khan, who rescued the python, stated that the snake was in a critical condition and required immediate attention. Initially, first aid was administered under the guidance of a veterinary officer, but the seriousness of the python's injuries necessitated its transfer to Bhopal for specialized care.

Reportedly, the python was discovered by local children who noticed it tied with wire. They informed Adil Khan, who leads the Satpura Biodiversity Conservation Society. Adil faced significant challenges in rescuing the python, but eventually, he managed to provide initial treatment before handing it over to the Forest Department for further care.
