Commando monitor lizard climbs up 50ft-tall university building
A monitor lizard was seen climbing up the side of a building at a university.
Footage shows the 'commando' reptile scaling 25 feet (7.62 meters) above the ground outside the structure's second floor at Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 29.
It continued to crawl upwards, reaching the top of the building with a height of 50ft (15.24 meters).
Concerned student Kitchaya Wirunaruk said she asked a security guard for help evacuating the animal but was informed that it would descend on its own.
Kitchaya said: 'The guard told me that the monitor lizard would always climb up and down the building so we didn't need to worry.'
Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.
The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
