Young boy suffers burns after causing explosion whilst playing with lighter in China
A 6-year-old boy suffered extensive burns after accidentally causing an explosion while playing with a lighter in the yard.
Footage from Shaoguan, Guangdong Province, shows the boy holding a lighter near flammable gas resulting in a ball of flames to erupt.
The boy is then seen running away with flames still burning on one of his arms.
Faced with the sudden disaster, the boy showed extraordinary calmness and presence of mind for his age. While screaming, he quickly located a source of water and attempted to douse the flames on his body.
An angry parent is seen striking the boy.
Although the fire was initially brought under control, the boy had already suffered extensive burns. Emergency services were immediately called and the boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to the hospital, the boy was close to going into shock when he arrived, and his condition was critical. After initial treatment, his condition has stabilised, and he is currently under further observation and recovery treatment.
