Train crashes into market stall parasol at Thailand's famous railway spot
A train crashed into a market stall parasol and suffered from a shattered windscreen while passing through a famous Thai railway market spot.
The locomotive was inching through the narrow path along Maeklong Railway Market lined with tourists when a pole from a nearby shop canopy slipped into one of its windows in Samut Songkhram, Thailand, on September 20.
Footage shows the passenger train pausing as it pulls the retractable awning with it when the shopkeeper was unable to move it out of the way. The pole smashed through the front of the driver's side but he was unhurt.
The vehicle was travelling slowly for safety as the area has become an unlikely destination for visitors who want to see the stall holders clearing away their wares each time a train arrives.
No one was hurt and the parasol from the shop was only misaligned, which the owner fixed afterwards.
A tourist said: 'The umbrella pierced through the train window and was almost broken.'
The Maeklong Railway Market in Thailand is famous for having a train pass through it several times a day. When the train approaches, vendors quickly move their goods and awnings away from the tracks. Once the train passes, they resume their usual market activities on the railway.
