A powerful eruption of Mount Marapi on Saturday, October 26th, sent shockwaves through the Indonesian city of Bukittinggi.

The loud rumbling and tremors caused residents to flee their homes, fearing an earthquake.

"It felt like the ground was shaking," said Armen, a local resident. "We rushed outside and saw a massive ash cloud billowing from the volcano."

Indonesia's Mount Marapi erupted on Saturday, October 26th, spewing a column of ash 1,000 meters into the air. The eruption, which occurred at 5:10 PM local time.

The Mount Marapi Observatory recorded the volcano, which stands at 2,891 meters above sea level, has been an increase in magma supply since October 7th.

"Volcanic ash rained down on the northern and southwestern slopes of Mount Marapi," said Aziz Yuliawan, an official at the Mount Marapi Volcano Observatory. "Fortunately, no populated areas have been affected by the ashfall."
