Railway station explosion kills 21 and injures 46 in Pakistan
A railway station explosion killed 21 and injured 46 in Pakistan.
Footage shows passengers on the platform waiting for the Jaffar Express to Peshawar when a blast suddenly tore through the station in Quetta, Balochistan, on November 8.
Muhammad Baloch, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations in Quetta, indicated that initial evidence points to a potential suicide bombing.
He confirmed 21 deaths from the explosion but cautioned that the toll could rise.
The militant group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion originated from the booking office of the railway station.
Local media reports indicate that around 100 individuals were present at the site.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the bombing as a heinous act targeting innocent civilians, calling for an immediate investigation.
Bugti expressed concern over the increasing trend of terrorists targeting vulnerable groups and vowed to ensure that those responsible face severe consequences.
In another incident, eight people were killed in a suicide blast near the Aslam Check Post in Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan, a tribal province bordering Afghanistan, on October 25.
Authorities reported that the attackers were riding on three-wheelers, targeting a security forces checkpoint and nearby vehicles, resulting in the deaths of four police officers, two soldiers, and two civilians.
Militants affiliated with the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) reportedly claimed responsibility for the deadly bombing.
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities in recent years, with security forces conducting anti-terrorism operations that resulted in the elimination of nearly a dozen extremists in North Waziristan.
