This is the amusing moment a housewife defied floods by cycling to the shops through waist-deep water.

Chanwit Whanset, aboard a rubber boat, spotted the resilient woman pedalling through the muddy waters in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on October 6.

Footage shows the local smiling at passersby as she navigates the flooded city.

Chanwit said: 'Despite what we were facing, some can still find happiness and gratitude in anything.'

Bridges and other infrastructure in the province were heavily damaged due to the severe rain storms that battered the region.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia endure their annual monsoon rainy season from September to November each year. The season sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rainstorms in the afternoon, leading to widespread flash floods.
