A sinkhole formed in the middle of the road and disrupted traffic in China.

The ground caved in on the busy street, prompting passing vehicles to slow down and navigate around the pit in Haikou, Hainan, on November 5.

Footage shows road workers investigating the cavity.

Local media reported that warning signs were placed near the sinkhole to alert pedestrians and drivers.

There are various reasons why roads may develop sinkholes, including natural processes and human activities.
One cause is human activity, such as drilling, water diversion, and pond creation, which can contribute to the formation of sinkholes.

Also, underlying rock made of soft materials like limestone or gypsum increases the risk of sinkholes. Additionally, structural integrity can be compromised by underground construction, further exacerbating the issue.
