School bus overturns killing pupil and injuring 14 others
A school bus overturned, killing one pupil and injuring 14 others in India.
CCTV footage shows the yellow coach losing control on a slope and violently flipping over near Valakkai Bridge in Kannur, Kerala, on Wednesday, January 1.
Authorities said the vehicle was transporting students to their homes from Kurumathur Chinmaya School after school hours when the incident occurred.
Police confirmed that a Class 5 student was killed in the crash. They said an investigation is underway.
In another incident last year, a school bus crashed into a tree at high speed, killing at least eight children and injuring 14 others in Mahendragarh, Haryana, on April 11.
India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported each year.
The poor track record is blamed on unsafe road conditions, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and a lack of awareness about road safety.
