A couple were arrested over an outdoor romp at a waterfall beauty spot in southern Thailand.

Daniel and Jarden, both 39, sparked outrage when they stripped and began having sex in broad daylight on 'Full Moon Party' island Koh Phangan.

The naked man pinned his partner against the rocky riverbank as he mounted her from behind during the romp at the Wang Sai Waterfall on Tuesday.

He leaned over to kiss her, unfazed by other tourists passing through the area. However, one local tour guide recorded them on his smartphone - enough evidence to seal their downfall with the authorities.

They said they were shocked by the 'unusual wildlife' at the waterfall.

The filmer added: 'I wasn't expecting to see that kind of wildlife. It was quite embarrassing because I was leading a small group of tourists hiking through the area at the time.

'This is not the impression I want them to have of my country.'

Police detained the couple, from Tel Aviv, Israel, at their hotel in Surat Thani province on November 5, when footage of the tryst emerged on social media.

Police Colonel Apichart Chansamret said: 'Officers found the couple at their rented house in Koh Phangan district.

'They initially denied what happened, but they were then shown photographs and video clips of the indecent acts, including sexual intercourse, at Wang Sai Waterfall.

'Both individuals admitted that they were the people in the clips, and they will be fined according to the law.'

The holidaymakers were hauled to the Surat Thani Immigration Office to face charges of 'jointly committing a publicly shameful act, including undressing or exposing their bodies, or engaging in other obscene acts', which is punishable by a fine of up to 500 baht.

The arrest comes amid mounting frustrations against Israeli tourists in Thailand, driven by disruptive behaviour and concerns over illegal Israeli settlements in places like Koh Phangan, which locals have branded a 'second Tel Aviv'.

Some restaurants have even displayed 'No Israel' signs, but critics said they are fuelled by the hysteria and protests surrounding the wider conflict in Gaza.

British, Russians, Australians and other nationalities are also among those regularly arrested for inappropriate behaviour while on holiday in Thailand.

On Tuesday, British sex guru Maria Shchetinina, 40, was detained for allegedly holding tantric yoga sessions and erotic workshops for couples on the island of Koh Phangan, where the Full Moon Party is held.

The self-proclaimed guru used the name Maria Sly Love and charged clients 400 baht (9 GBP) per class.

Wearing low-cut tops, she taught clients meditations, tantric massage, and 'sacred sexuality' from behind a local restaurant.

Police stormed the new-age themed Ethos restaurant on November 4, following investigations into the 'sexually indecent' yoga classes that Maria advertised on social media.
