This is the terrifying moment a girl battled strong winds during Typhoon Connie in China.

The university student, holding a black umbrella, was heading to her next class with her friends as she struggled to move through the powerful gusts in Jinshan, Shanghai, on October 31.

Footage shows her umbrella flipping inside out as she grips onto it.

Local reports said that residents experienced heavy rainfall from the evening of October 31 to November 1, with precipitation reaching 120 to 180 millimetres and winds as high as 140 mph, causing flash floods in various areas of the city.

Authorities reported deploying officials to assist and manage residents during the typhoon.

Typhoon Connie brought the heaviest November rainfall since 1981 in the country.
