This is the spectacular moment a freediver swam through thousands of tuna fish.

Footage shows Rhea Ularte gliding into the middle of a large skipjack tuna school off the coast of Batangas, the Philippines, on January 12.

She wore large goggles to see clearly the underwater scenery and flippers so she could swim around effortlessly.

The freediver said she felt lucky to have swum by the skipjack, which was her first time.

She said: 'I did not expect to see such a large school of fish. It was so amazing watching them.'

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands surrounded by warm, clear waters and offers diverse freediving spots ranging from shallow coral reefs to deep underwater walls.

It lies within the Coral Triangle, a marine region in the western Pacific Ocean. It is known as the global centre of marine biodiversity, spanning the waters of six countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, and Timor-Leste.
