Indianapolis, United States - January 27, 2025 A car drove onto the ice of the White River early Monday before sinking into the frigid waters near Riverside Park. Indianapolis police received a call around 6:45 a.m. on January 27 about the vehicle on the ice in the 2600 block of North White River Parkway East Drive. Authorities confirmed no one was inside before an Indianapolis Fire Department dive team attempted to recover the SUV. However, unstable conditions forced them to abandon the effort as the car slipped beneath the surface. Officials say the vehicle will remain in the river until the ice thaws and conditions are safe for removal. Emergency crews warned the public to stay off frozen bodies of water, emphasizing that Indiana’s ice is dangerously unpredictable.
