On 16th February, at Tanglangshan Country Park in Shenzhen, Guangdong, a young girl was bitten by a wild monkey while attempting to take a photo with it. The monkey grabbed her arm and left deep bite marks.

Footage captured by witnesses shows several tourists watching the monkey as it ate. Under parental guidance, the girl approached the animal to pose for a picture. Suddenly, the monkey lunged, grabbing her arm and biting down hard. Onlookers gasped in shock, and the monkey quickly released her. The girl was then taken to hospital for further treatment.

According to park authorities, Tanglangshan is an open-access park where the monkeys are completely wild. While they rarely attack humans unprovoked, close-range feeding or teasing can trigger aggression. Warning signs have been installed along trails, and staff use loudspeakers to remind visitors to keep their distance, but some still ignore the advice.

Tanglangshan Country Park, located in Shenzhen’s Nanshan District, was established in 2002 and spans around 10 square kilometres. It is home to diverse wildlife, including eagles, wild boars, and native macaques. Currently, the park has only one troop of around 20 monkeys. With increasing visitor numbers in recent years, occasional monkey attacks have been reported, mostly on weekends and holidays, with children and women being the most affected.
