A pickup truck spun out of control driving on a wet highway before plunging into a grassy median.

Dashcam footage shows a light blue pickup truck swerving across a lane and blocking the path of a truck before it fell into a ditch during a rainy day in Surat Thani, Thailand, on January 15.

It spun around and hit the back of the vehicle first before flipping on its side.

Truck driver Naruemit Bamrungphakdi, whose dashboard camera recorded the blue car, said: 'I was trying to avoid it, then I blocked my trailer truck. It was so fast.

'It overtook my truck, and then it lost control. It was also raining, and the road was very slippery.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
