This is the shocking moment a mattress flew off a roof rack, causing a car behind to crash.

Amnuay Khampa, 43, and his family were heading to their hometown for the New Year holiday when the foam mattress attached to the roof of a silver pickup truck struck their vehicle in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on December 28.

Dashcam footage shows the mattress falling off the four-wheeler and hitting Amnuay's black Honda City sedan.

Upon collision with the mattress, his car lost control and veered off to the left side of the road. The vehicle crashed into the trees and dried grass.

The pickup truck can be seen fleeing the scene, seemingly unaware of what happened.

Amnuay said: 'I was driving with my wife and eight-year-old son, travelling from Bangkok to Yasothon to visit our hometown for the New Year holiday.

'As we drove along the highway, I saw a truck carrying goods ahead of us and thought I needed to overtake it.

'Suddenly, the mattress flew off and hit my car, causing a tyre to burst. My car lost control and went off the road. Luckily, we didn't hit a utility pole; otherwise, my wife and son might not have survived.'

The family of three reportedly did not sustain any serious injuries from the incident.

The victim filed a complaint with the police, requesting an investigation to identify the driver of the vehicle and proceed with legal action.
