Firefighters Battle Stubborn Blaze, Ceiling Collapses During Intense Attack
On April 23 at 1:25 p.m., Commodore Volunteer Fire Department, alongside Cherryhill Township Fire/Rescue and Hope Fire Company of Northern Cambria (for RIT), was dispatched to assist Clymer Volunteer Fire Company #1 with a structure fire along Hancock Street in Clymer Borough.
150 Chief Gromley from Station 150 responded first, reporting an active fire on the exterior “C” side advancing inside the home. Engine 154 quickly followed, securing their own water supply, conducting a primary search, and launching an aggressive fire attack. Mutual aid crews, led by Engine 543, arrived shortly after and reinforced the interior attack while extending water lines between apparatus.
Despite tough conditions and a stubborn attic fire, Commodore and mutual aid firefighters pushed hard to bring the blaze under control. Intense helmet cam footage captured by 540 Chief showed the moment an interior ceiling collapsed just behind him, grazing his back. Thanks to teamwork from Cherryhill Township, Hope, Marion Center, Citizens' Ambulance Service, and Homer City Fire Department, the fire was fully extinguished and hotspots were thoroughly checked.
