PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A quick response from deputies and the heroic actions of a teen brother helped save a missing 5-year-old autistic, nonverbal child from a lake in Pasco County on October 6.

Around 3:30 p.m., the Pasco Sheriff’s Office received a call about the missing child in the area of Lake Lisa Park. Deputies immediately responded, knowing the urgency of missing person cases — particularly when water is nearby.

When they arrived, citizens reported that the child had been seen in the lake. Deputies raced to the scene, jumped a fence, and discovered that the child’s 17-year-old brother had already entered the water, holding the child safely on a branch. Deputies assisted in pulling both siblings from the water to safety.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office commended the teen for his bravery and quick thinking. “His courageous actions likely prevented a tragedy,” the department said.
