Douglas County Deputies Use Grappler to End Dangerous DUI Pursuit
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Aurora Police Department in safely ending a high-speed pursuit early Saturday morning using Grappler technology.
At approximately 4:22 a.m. on October 4, deputies joined the chase of a suspected DUI driver traveling westbound on E-470 near Gartrell Road. Despite multiple attempts to stop the vehicle with stop sticks, the driver continued, striking the concrete barrier several times before a Douglas County deputy successfully deployed the Grappler device just west of South Quebec Street.
The maneuver brought the vehicle to a controlled stop, and the suspect was taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. Sheriff Darren Weekly praised the collaboration and the use of advanced tools, saying, “This incident highlights the power of innovative technology that allows us to safely end dangerous situations while protecting the public.”
