WABAUNSEE COUNTY, Kan. — A high-speed chase spanning multiple Kansas counties came to a dramatic but safe conclusion early Saturday morning, thanks to the swift actions of Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Deputy Massie.

Around 2:46 a.m. on October 4, 2025, Deputy Massie was conducting a routine traffic stop on I-70 when he was alerted that Riley County Police were in pursuit of a vehicle involved in an alleged attempted battery on a law enforcement officer. Wrapping up his own stop with a warning, Massie raced to the county line, deploying stop sticks as the fleeing vehicle approached at speeds exceeding 110 mph.

The stop sticks shredded all four of the suspect’s tires, bringing the chase to a safe end. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Riley County.

In a lighthearted post, the sheriff’s office praised Deputy Massie’s quick response and sense of humor, adding, “Other than the bad guy’s spirits — and all four of his tires — no one was hurt.”
