DELTONA, Fla. — A man with a history of driving offenses was taken into custody Tuesday after fleeing from a Volusia County deputy during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Deputy Graham was conducting proactive patrol when he spotted a silver Kia driven by 34-year-old Juan Garcia Valcourt, who had a habitually suspended license and was recently arrested on a similar charge. When the deputy attempted a stop on Howland Boulevard, Garcia Valcourt fled, eventually abandoning the vehicle at Tom Hoffman Park.

With assistance from K9 units and AirOne, deputies quickly located and arrested Garcia Valcourt. He reportedly told officers he stopped running because he became tired. Garcia Valcourt was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on charges of driving while license suspended as a habitual traffic offender, fleeing and eluding, and resisting an officer without violence.
