SLIDELL, La. — A routine traffic stop escalated into a felony arrest last month after a suspect fled from Slidell police officers during a proactive patrol, according to the Slidell Police Department.

In a video shared on social media, Officer Brittany French and her K-9 partner Raider, along with several other SPD officers, pursued 40-year-old Damien Dunn of Slidell. The suspect fled the scene but was eventually apprehended after a brief chase.

Police noted that Dunn ultimately complied before the K-9 unit was deployed — a decision that may have spared him further injury.

The incident highlights how quickly routine encounters can escalate and underscores the risks officers face during everyday patrols. Charges against Dunn were not specified but are classified as felony-level offenses.
