This is the heartwarming moment a pensioner burst into tears upon learning he was going to be a grandfather.

Mel was taken out for dinner by his son and daughter-in-law, Rika Javier, who handed him a paper bag with a small present inside in Manila, the Philippines.

Footage shows the elderly man opening the package and pulling out a baseball cap embroidered with the words ‘Lolo Mel' which translates to Grandpa Mel'.

He paused for a moment before tearing up, realising the young couple were expecting a child.

Mel said: ‘Are you serious? I will start serving in church from now on.'

He proudly wore the cap while his children looked on with teary eyes.

Rika said: ‘That was when I was seven weeks pregnant. We told him on his birthday.'
