MANKATO, Minn. — The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to follow Minnesota’s "Move Over" law after a recent close call was captured on video along County Road 11.

The footage, recorded from a BEC squad car last week, shows a driver failing to yield to an emergency vehicle with active lights and sirens. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the incident highlights the dangers of ignoring emergency responders on the road.

Under Minnesota Statute 169.20 Subd. 5, all motorists are required to yield the right-of-way by pulling to the right and stopping when an emergency vehicle is approaching with activated sirens and lights.

"Failing to move over delays emergency response and puts lives at risk—including your own," the sheriff’s office stated in the Facebook post. "It’s not just courteous—it’s the law."
