Crash in Work Zone Highlights Need to Respect Road Crews
JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. — A crash on Interstate 81 in Jefferson County serves as a stark reminder of the dangers road workers face daily. According to the New York State Department of Transportation, the incident occurred in an active mowing zone when drivers failed to heed “Mowing Ahead” warnings.
Officials said one vehicle abruptly merged and clipped another, sending it spinning directly into a roadside mower. Miraculously, no injuries were reported. However, NYSDOT emphasized that the outcome could have been far worse.
“Our crews work just inches from traffic,” the agency posted. “Their lives depend on your attention.” Motorists are urged to slow down, stay alert, and respect all active work zones.
