WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A cat missing for six years has been reunited with its owner thanks to the help of a microchip.

This week, Animal Management Officer Pyeatt responded to a report of a found cat. A microchip scan revealed the animal’s original owner, who had moved away the same day the cat disappeared. She told officers she had spent years driving through the area, hoping to spot her pet again.

Westminster police said the reunion is a reminder of the importance of microchipping pets and keeping contact information current. The department will host a low-cost microchip and vaccination clinic Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the West View Recreation Center.
