HOWARD COUNTY, Md. — A vehicle struck two patrol cars during a traffic stop on Interstate 95, briefly pinning an officer against a guardrail, underscoring the importance of Maryland’s Move Over Law, according to the Howard County Police Department.

The close call happened late last night as two officers were conducting a traffic stop and arrest on northbound I-95 near Route 175. Police said a passing vehicle failed to move over or slow down and crashed into both patrol vehicles at the scene.

One officer was momentarily pinned against the guardrail. Authorities said both the officer and the driver involved in the crash sustained only minor injuries.

Police used the incident to remind drivers that the Move Over Law requires motorists to change lanes or significantly slow down when approaching any stopped, standing or parked vehicle displaying warning signals. The law applies not only to emergency vehicles, but also to work vehicles and disabled personal vehicles.

Officials stressed that following the law helps protect first responders, road workers and fellow motorists during roadside emergencies.
