BETTENDORF, Iowa — Officers with the Bettendorf Police Department safely ended a potentially dangerous pursuit after locating a suspected stolen vehicle during a proactive patrol.

According to police, third-shift officers attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver began driving erratically and maneuvered toward an Interstate 74 off-ramp in the wrong direction, creating an immediate threat to public safety.

Recognizing the danger, officers used intentional vehicle contact to disable the car. The pursuit was brought to an end in just over one minute, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident or injuries.

Police credited the successful resolution to extensive training, including instruction at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, ongoing pursuit management training, classroom decision-making exercises and hands-on driving practice.

The department emphasized that proactive policing, combined with proper training and equipment, remains critical to protecting residents and preventing serious harm.
