RAMAPO, N.Y. — Officers with the Town of Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of a masked suspect roaming a local area, only to discover the call involved a far less dangerous offender.

Police said the “suspect” was actually a deer that appeared to have become tangled in or covered by a bag, giving the impression of a disguised individual. Officers quickly assessed the situation, removed the item from the animal, and ensured it was not injured.

After freeing the deer, officers safely released it back into the wild, where it ran off on its own.

The department shared the incident as a reminder that not every suspicious-person call turns out to be criminal — but officers are always prepared to respond, investigate, and resolve situations safely for both the public and wildlife.
