This is the shocking moment a scooter rider fell while trying to dodge a pickup truck that hurtled through a red light in Thailand.

Dashcam footage captured the incident at an intersection in Si Sa Ket Province on August 21, showing the red light as motorists from the opposite lane continued to pass through.

As the light changed to green, the filmer began to slowly move right, alongside a delivery rider making the same manoeuvre.

Suddenly, a reckless pickup truck sped through the junction, running the red light without stopping.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, the delivery rider braked hard, causing his motorcycle to skid and topple onto the road. He narrowly avoided a serious head injury.

His delivery box was crushed, while the truck driver continued without stopping to check on him.

Local authorities are reportedly investigating the incident and reviewing the footage to identify the driver.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
