A viral video captured by passenger Jay Crenshaw shows a heated confrontation between a traveler and a flight attendant before a flight from Costa Rica to Dallas on Tuesday, after the woman told the crew member “she should shut up” during the safety briefing.

According to Crenshaw, the altercation began when the woman noticed her seat was dirty and requested it be cleaned. The attendant complied, but the passenger continued her phone conversation as the safety instructions played. When the attendant asked her to pay attention, tensions escalated and the encounter was recorded.

In the footage, the flight attendant firmly addresses the passenger: “Do you want to get off the plane? Because I don’t feel comfortable with you if you’re not going to follow instructions,” she said. “You’re not on my list as someone who can’t hear. So I’m going to ask the pilot to remove you because you’re not complying. You know what you did, right?”

The passenger initially agreed to follow instructions but later accused the attendant of harassment. Video shows her being escorted off the aircraft. Crenshaw, who posted the clip with the caption “empty middle seat is a win for me,” confirmed the removal.

Reflecting on the incident, Crenshaw said, “I think the passenger knows she was wrong. I’m definitely not excusing her behavior. She’s a person and we’ve all had bad days and said bad things, but we weren’t on film. I hope people can remember this and give her a bit of grace. At the same time, I also hope she can learn from this and improve.”
