Shoppers flee as earthquake rattles market in Indonesia

This is the dramatic moment terrified shoppers fled for their lives as a magnitude 5.2 earthquake rattled a market in Indonesia.

The locals were browsing through clothes racks when tremors jolted the shop in Mukomuko Regency in Bengkulu, on Sunday evening.

CCTV footage shows how the panicked buyers running to the streets when they felt the ground shake.

Resident Nino Endang said: 'It happened very quickly. We felt the earthquake was very strong. Shop visitors also ran.'

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake struck 35 kilometres (22 miles) southwest of Mukomuko Regency at 9:49 pm local time.

Centred at sea, it was recorded at a depth of 18 kilometres (11 miles) and was also felt as far as West Sumatra.

There were no reports of casualties or infrastructure damage. No tsunami alarms were raised.
