This is the dramatic moment students huddled in the corner of their classroom during a violent storm in Malaysia.

Footage shows the pupils staying close together as intense downpours and powerful winds struck SK Pengarah Enteri in Long Lama, Sarawak, on September 24.

Another video clip shows torn-off roofs scattered on the ground, uprooted trees, and damaged structures.

The storm reportedly swept through the region, leaving houses and vehicles heavily damaged.

Malaysia is currently experiencing La Nina conditions, bringing heavier rainfall and wetter weather across the country.

The northeast monsoon is also forecast to deliver strong winds and heavy downpours until March next year.

The National Climate Centre said that Malaysia remains at the tail-end of the southwest monsoon.

Fredolin Tangang, a climate expert at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, said: 'Both the monsoon and La Nina bring more moisture into the region, which can fuel heavy rain and storms.

'Meanwhile, the typhoon over the northern South China Sea can generate stronger winds which can also cause heavy rain over places like Sabah's west coast.'
