A huge 9.5-foot crocodile was hoisted out of a 30-foot-deep well by a crane in Vadodara, Gujarat, on November 11.

A rescue team was called after the croc was spotted near a river close to a construction site.

After one of the team skilfully looped a rope around the reptile's neck before a crane was used to lift it to safety.

One of the team, Hemant Kumar Vadhavana, said: "We received an urgent call from the project officer and local residents informing us that a crocodile had fallen into the pit and needed immediate attention. Upon arriving at the site, we discovered that the animal was approximately nine and a half feet long and partially submerged in mud, making access extremely difficult.

"The pit, filled with 10 to 15 feet of thick mud, required initial clearing before we could approach the crocodile safely. From 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, our team worked meticulously to remove mud and create a passage deep enough to reach the trapped reptile. Once the crocodile became visible and in a position suitable for restraint, we used a JCB bucket to enter the pit safely. Ropes were securely tied at three critical points, neck, abdomen, and groin to ensure control of the animal during extraction.

"Given the crocodile’s size and weight, it was impossible for humans alone to lift it. Using a crane, we carefully pulled the nine-and-a-half-foot crocodile out of the pit and ensured its safe relocation. The coordinated efforts of the team, combined with careful planning and proper equipment, were crucial in executing this complex rescue operation successfully."

The incident took place near the bullet train project site, at Maretha village near Vadodara district, in western India's Gujarat, on November 11.

Visuals show that rescue team members first descended into the construction site and released mud. Then, one of the team members skillfully looped a rope around the crocodile’s neck using a crane. Finally, they were able to lift the crocodile with the crane and safely remove it from the pit.
