Phoenix, United States - December 05, 2025 12/05/2025 12:00 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials at the scene, a DPS trooper observed a wrong-way driver on Bethany Home Road near the I-17 at approximately midnight. The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver refused to yield. A pursuit was initiated as the vehicle entered the I-17, traveling southbound from Bethany Home Road. The suspect led troopers south on the I-17 at speeds varying from 40 to 60 miles per hour. The suspect then entered the westbound I-10 from the I-17 stack. The suspect's vehicle slowed to approximately 40 miles an hour as the pursuit continued westbound on I-10. A DPS patrol vehicle, equipped with a Grappler Police Bumper, approached the rear of the sedan as the pursuit crossed over 27th Avenue. A short time later, the trooper deployed the Grappler, successfully bringing the sedan to an abrupt stop near 35th Avenue. A closure was established for westbound I-10 while troopers conducted a high-risk traffic stop on the vehicle. Troopers issued several commands, ordering the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver refused to comply with commands, and a standoff ensued. Troopers eventually utilized a less-lethal projectile launcher to shatter the back passenger window of the sedan. Multiple pepper balls were then deployed into the vehicle. The suspect, an adult female, then exited the vehicle and was quickly taken into custody. The suspect faces multiple charges, including felony flight and DUI.
