US, Phoenix: Mesa Suspect Crashes After Fleeing From Police
Phoenix, United States - January 10, 2026 01/10/2026 02:30 am GMT-0700 MESA, Ariz. – According to information gathered at the scene, Mesa police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a suspect driving a Jeep near the intersection of the Red Mountain Loop 202 and University Drive early Saturday morning. The initial reason for the stop has not been confirmed. The driver failed to yield and sped away at a high rate of speed. At the time of the attempted traffic stop, a Mesa Police Department helicopter was already overhead and began following the vehicle as it fled. Officers continued to follow the vehicle to the intersection of 64th Street and University Drive, where the Jeep crashed into the front yard of a house on the southwest corner of the intersection. Officers boxed in the vehicle and deployed pepper balls in an attempt to coax the driver out of the car. The suspect was taken into custody and evaluated by Mesa firefighters before being transported to a local hospital.
