Amazing footage has emerged of a man trying to catch a crocodile on a beach in India with his bare hands.

The reptile was spotted on Dapoli beach, India on October 7 where it sparked off panic. A local resident shot a video of a man trying to grab the crocodile by its tail. Shocked, the animal dashed into the sea.

After a second attempt involving two forest officials and a short tug-of-war, the crocodile managed to escape.

The reptile was caught later on and brought back to the nearby Maldoli backwaters, a natural habitat for saltwater crocodiles, from where it may have swum towards the Dapoli beach.

He used his bare hands and tried at least twice, both the times getting dangerously close to the animal.

A video shot by a local resident shows the man approaching the reptile and trying to grab it by its tail. The alarmed crocodile dashes into the sea.

A second video shows the man returning later with two forest officials. Better prepared, he sneaks behind the crocodile and throws a noose around its neck.

A brief tug-of-war results between the man and the crocodile. He tries to pull it away from the sea, while the reptile manages to wriggle itself free and make a run for freedom again.
